Description

Basic data from specimen labels on all the sheets currently held in PSUB collection shown together with digital images from high resolution scans of each sheet.

Characeae is a family of freshwater green algae in the order Charales, commonly known as stoneworts. They are also known as brittleworts from the fragility of their lime-encrusted stems. The most commonly recorded species belong to the genera Chara and Nitella

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 15 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

An ongoing project to digitise the herbarium's specimens. We have created a specifically tailored Botanical Records And Herbarium Management System (BRAHMS) which is now our on site database. Data harvesting from duplicates held elsewhere globally. Herbarium sheet preparation, high resolution digital scanning to create image, specimen data entry into BRAHMS.

Title Published as part of PSUB's Data Mobilization Project
Funding University of Botswana Desert & Delta Safaris (Chobe Holdings Limited)
Study Area Description The Peter Smith University of Botswana (PSUB) herbarium collection has at its core the legacy collection of Peter A. Smith specimens. The Characeae family held at PSUB were collected from northern Botswana.
Design Description The Data Mobilization Project of PSUB intends to digitise and publish its entire collection on GBIF. This first dataset is all the Characeae family specimens in our collection.
